Day 1:
Zoo Beginning Sound Clip Cards- Helps your child to focus in on the beginning letter sounds he/she hears and then to identify which letter makes that sounds.
Zoo Counting- This activity will help your child begin to read, count and model whole numbers 1-10. (This activity was inspired by Confessions of a Homeschooler.)
What do I eat? Sort- Use this activity to discuss how not all animals eat the same thing. Some eat plants and some eat meat.
Day 2:
Zoo Beginning Writing- (Can also be used for cutting practice.)You can use this document over and over again if you laminate it and then have you child write with dry erase markers. (Black dry erase wipes off easier than color ones.)
Zoo Shadow Match- Will help your child work on shape recognition and matching.
Zoo Tot Pack- Works on several skills. This pack include: Size Sequencing, Memory Match, Color Words, Counting & Number Recognition, Letters & Beginning Sounds and a nine piece puzzle.
Day 3:
Zoo Spelling- This activity will help your child begin to recognize that when letters are combined they form words.

Roll & Graph: The Zoo- This activity will introduce your child to data collection and interpretation. Make sure you bars are different colors for easier reading. Once you’ve completed the graph (first animal to # of choice), make sure to ask simple questions. Such as, “Which color is taller? What animal is that? Which color is shorter? Which animal is that? How many times did we give the (animal) a sticker?” Make sure to show them how to use the graph, instead of just counting the stickers.
Pretend to be a Zookeeper- Whether you get dressed up or you just pull out all your animals toys, have fun with your kiddo as they pretend to run the zoo.
We hope you enjoy these lesson plans and please let us know if you have any issues with downloading or using the items provided.
Special Thanks to Just So Scrappy for graphics.

Another fantastic lesson!! Thanks for sharing your talents! Kerri
Thank you!!! The animal clip art is so cute. This will go along perfect with your field trip to the zoo this week!
In your spelling unit - isn't the bird spelled toucan and not 'tucan' ?
Oh my goodness! Yes! I fixed it. Thank you for pointing that out. As you can tell, this momma doesn't always sit with the boy the whole time he is doing the activity. Otherwise I may have caught it.
Wow! What awesome ideas!! I am just putting finishing touches to my "Z is for Zoo" packet. I LOVE your ideas and will definitely link to you!! Thanks a million!
