Like the first chapter, this one convicted me several times. Some of the convictions lead to a feeling of inadequacy, but as I kept reading I came across this, "God will take WHAT YOU HAVE to give and multiply it" (pg 55). Praise God!

No matter where you are in your walk, GOD CAN USE YOU! I allow the devil to take that truth from me to often.

What I really love about this chapter was all the application suggestions it provides for nurturing LifeGIFTS in your home.  Not only did it show me areas I could improve in, but encouraged me by pointing out areas we were already nurturing.  For example, one thing we are doing more consistently is opening each day in prayer together as a whole family before Daddy goes off to work. Its a small step, but God will use it.

Check out what others are saying on Facebook.

What are some ways you are nurturing LifeGIFTS in your home?

Chpt 2 Educating the WholeHearted Child

If you missed my original post, I’m hosting a informal book study. Just like our Facebook page to join in OR leave comments on the corresponding blog posts with your thoughts on each chapter of {ad} Educating the Wholehearted Child by Clay and Sally Clarkson.

affiliate linkThis chapter was full of suggestions to help you be more confident in your decision to homeschool.  It provides several ways you can respond to 5 questions that you’re bound to be asked.

For me the section on answering the legislation question was the most helpful. I am aware of my state requirements, but I need to be better aware of state or federal legislation that could affect my rights. I think the whole German family debacle has really open my eyes to making sure our family's rights are protected. We have yet to join HSLDA, but this chapter makes it really clear why it is an important group to join.

Check out what others are saying on Facebook.

Which response to the 5 questions addressed did you find the most helpful?

Chpt 1 Educating the WholeHearted Child

If you missed my post last week, I’m hosting a informal book study. Just like our Facebook page to join in or leave comments on the corresponding blog posts with your thoughts on each chapter of {affiliate link} Educating the Wholehearted Child by Clay and Sally Clarkson.

wholehearted-child8This first chapter was a·maz·ing! It definitely left me with so much to think about!! I highlighted quite a bit, but one thing that really made me stop and evaluate was the following:

"A Christian home is never defined by what the children are doing; it is defined by what the parents are doing." (pg. 20)

Wow! Perspective. Are my actions a reflection of a Christian home? I know days I can truly say that they are not. So grateful that His mercies are new every morning.

Check out what others are saying on Facebook.

What made you stop and think?

Educating the Wholehearted Child Book Study

wholehearted childHave you ever purchased a book and then completely forgot to read it?  I have.

{affiliated links below}

After attending the Teach Then Diligently Convention I am determined to finally finish  Educating the Wholehearted Child by Clay and Sally Clarkson. And this summer is just the time to do it.  It will be the perfect end of the school year reading.  Not only will it help me to remember why I’m homeschooling, but it will hopefully rejuvenate me as I forge ahead to the next school year.

Do you want to join me? To make it even more interesting I thought I’d host a little informal book study on our Facebook page. Just like our Facebook page to join in.

I will also be adding my thoughts in a blog post for those of you that would rather participate that way.

The Plan

Every Friday morning I will create a post for the chapter read and pin it to the top of our Facebook page. Once you've finished reading come on over and let us know what stood out, things you want to put into action, something that inspired or convicted you.  The goal will be to have the first chapter read by Friday May 31st, but that chapter discussion thread will be up until the following Friday, so come when you can.

Picture3

If we start next week and do a chapter a week then we will have 14 chapters completed by the end of August. The last 4 we can complete in September. (I realize some of us may start getting really busy by that time.)

The Schedule
I know this is short notice for those of you who don’t have the book, but just jump ahead if need be.  If you can, do the free trail of Amazon Prime then you'll get it in 2 days with free shipping.

Here’s dates…

  • Chapter 1: May 27-31, discussion up on the 31st
  • Chapter 2: June 1-7, discussion up on the 7th
  • Chapter 3: June 8-14, discussion up on the 14th
  • Chapter 4: June 15-21, discussion up on the 21st
  • Chapter 5: June 22-28, discussion up on the 28th
  • Chapter 6: June 29-July 5, discussion up on the 5th
  • Chapter 7: July 6-12, discussion up on the 12th
  • Chapter 8: July 13-19, discussion up on the 19th
